This wonderfully romantic, and rare antique brooch, spells out the word 'REGARD' with the first letter of each gem: Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby, Diamond.

The gems border a circular exterior, and are separated by little flowers, which boast a faux pearl centre and beautifully worked gold leaves. Its a beautiful example of Art Nouveau jewellery, The brooch has a diameter of 2.5cm and it weighs 2.68g.

This style of antique brooch would have been given to a loved one as a token of affection, and to demonstrate that the wearer was held in high 'regard'. The brooch is an example of Acrostic Jewellery, where the gems spell out a secret message to the wearer, and which was very popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
